This simulation of the Parker Brother's board game MONOPOLY is offered to all Amiga users. Feel free to distribute this game in any manner what-so-ever, just refrain from charging any money for it! An English company, Leisure Genius, has released an Amiga version of this game, check it out and compare! To run the program, both files--monopoly.game and monopoly.board (a lo-res, IFF picture file created with multiple versions of Electronic Art's Deluxe Paint) need to be in the current directory--DF1:, DF0:, RAM:, HARD: etc. This allows the game to find the background board, and allows one to run from any directory. Unfortunately, this game only runs from the CLI, though I have set up an ICON driven program under 1.3 using the default tool, and code which looks for the picture file in a named directory (obviously this will still need CLI assigns to work from anything other than the original disk). First, open a SHELL, by double-clicking on the shell program's icon (made visible when the Workbench1.3 is opened.) Use the window sizing gadget in the lower right hand corner to make the shell as wide and tall as possible. If you have a single drive system, type: c:copy MONOPOLY:mono#? to RAM: -- hit the RETURN key -- you will be prompted to insert volume MONOPOLY: in any drive you will see that the two files are copied to RAM: After both files have been copied, replace your Workbench1.3 disk in your drive. next type: c:CD RAM: -- hit the RETURN key -- you will now be connected to the RAM: directory, next type: monopoly.game -- hit the RETURN key -- If you have two drives, simply put the MONOPOLY disk in the external drive, then type: c:CD DF1: -- hit the RETURN key -- then type: monopoly.game -- hit the RETURN key -- After the program loads, the board will appear momentarily, then a requester will appear, asking for the number of players. Click on the zero in brackets to activate the gadget, then hit the DELETE key and type in the correct number of players (you can DELETE or BACKSPACE to fix typing errors.) Clicking the continue gadget will bring up the name requester. At any time, hitting the HELP key will bring up the directions for the computerized aspects of the game. Full instructions are not included, as that would require copying the rule book! There are two known bugs in this code!! One involves the use of the HELP key. When you are examining the list of properties and their owners--using the "Review Properties" menu entry DO NOT PRESS THE HELP KEY!!! The other bug causes strange things to happen when one player finally wins--if one player causes the only other player to go bankrupt, and the losing player owns mortgaged property, the winner is offered the chance to un-mortgage those properties. If the winner DOES NOT un-mortgage the properties, the bank gets confused, and may cause the program to drift slowly off into never-never land, unfortunately, if the winner DOES un-mortgage the properties, the bank may get confused as well and the program does not quit! This situation does not happen all the time, and only occurs after a single player has wiped out all competition. I was hoping to sell this program to Leisure Genius, but that is no longer possible; as such I have gone on to other programs and will not be upgrading this one. Sorry, no bug fixes! I would be happy to share the C source code with any interested programmers, and am always happy to hear from anyone. Get in touch by mail, please, as I rarely answer my phone (you would be talking to my answering machine) and I never return long-distance phone calls! Have Fun! Ed Musgrove, K.A.O.S.
